Week One: Webinar

In this week’s webinar, Mindy Johnson provides an overview of the UDL framework and how it has evolved with recent updates to the principles and guidelines.

Mindy is an instructional designer and research associate at CAST.  Prior to her work at CAST, Mindy was a high school special education teacher, collaborating with general education teachers as well as providing direct support and instruction for students with disabilities.  Mindy is a member of the Inclusive Learning Network’s 2014/15 Board of Directors.

Consider the following questions as you watch this video:

  • In what ways has UDL changed since you first encountered it?

  • What assumptions and beliefs do you have about learning and learners?

  • Why do you think CAST reordered the Principles and “flipped” the guidelines?

  • How will these changes impact how you approach UDL in your practice?

  • Can you think of another game, resource or lesson you could apply the “rubik’s cube” principle to?

  • Can you think of another example, similar to shoes and cockpits, where one size does not fit all?
