The Solution

The Solution:

Based on research, our experience as teachers and our careers as PD providers, we based the design of our SOOCs and Phased Professional Learning on a framework that considers the unique learning needs of teachers, the learning needs of all students and the use of technology to support, enhance and include.

The SOOC is at the heart of what we do. Beyond traditional PD, online learning and MOOCs, our SOOCs support teacher professional growth by creating a learning community that:

  • Supports district initiatives

  • Personalizes learning experiences

  • Fully engages participants

  • Models best practice

  • Significantly improves completion rates

  • Encourages teacher action and reflection for professional growth

  • And supports data collection to measure the affect on student learning

SOOCs are stand-alone but usually occur inside a 4-Phased Solution to address the unique needs and goals of schools and districts. These phases are interconnected, designed to be flexible to create a customized plan.

Phase 1 - Planning for Implementation

  • We begin with the “end in mind” working with key personnel, including teachers, administrators, IT staff, Special Education staff, paraprofessionals and support personnel (OT/PT, SLPs etc.) to meet the unique needs of the district, its teachers and its students

  • We approach all design as educators first, focused on learning and change not devices or applications

  • We design a detailed implementation plan with clear goals, key indicators of success and capacity building strategies for one, two and three years

Phase 2 - Relationship Building

  • Phased throughout the implementation

  • In-person workshops, discussions, lesson modeling, lesson building, and sharing & celebration

  • Hands on support for resource creation

Phase 3 - SOOCs - Online Community of Practice

  • The heart of what we do

  • Dynamic, engaged communities for learning

  • Questionnaires to help determine need and to serve as baseline data for the district

  • Practical application of technology tools

  • Choice of pathway for learning

  • Co-construction of learning

Phase 4 -Sustainable Professional Growth

  • Support to build internal capacity though accreditation (interanally lead SOOC)

  • Website design and accessibility review

  • Resource curation and curriculum mapping

  • Resource creation co-constructed with district (curriculum, model lessons, video)

  • Evaluation of Existing Programs/Products

Additional Phases can be added including Assessment, Student Support and Parent Support
